The South Carolina Athletic Hall of Fame

Our Mission is to honor those who, by outstanding achievement or service, have made lasting contributions to the cause of sports in South Carolina, the nation, and the entire world.
To preserve records of teams and individuals, to promote the ideals and traditions of sports as a positive influence on our youth as a potent factor in our South Carolina way of life.
To maintain and improve the high esteem which sports occupy in our great state.

  • Bill Hamilton




    Bill Hamilton, who was reared in Chesterfield and graduated from S.C. State, retired in 2013 after 40 years as the only full-time sports information director in SCSU history, beginning his career in July, 1973. He remains active with SCSU athletics as the college’s athletic historian and as a football broadcaster. In 2009, was enshrined in the CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors Association) Hall of Fame and in 2012, was the recipient of the SCAHOF’s annual Herman Helms Excellence in Media Award. He becomes the fourth African American to serve as the organization’s president, following Casey Manning (1994), Willie Jeffries (2009) and Xavier Starkes (2015).

  • Randy Warrick




    Randy Warrick spent 39 years at USC Aiken as baseball coach and director of athletics, splitting the dual responsibilities in 1990. He was an integral part of the formation of the Peach Belt Conference and guided the Pacers from NAIA to NCAA Division II. Warrick, who retired in 2017, is the longest serving director of athletics in the history of the South Carolina system.

    Jim Corbett is a former radio sports reporter and has practiced law in Columbia with the same firm as for the last 34 years. Calling Columbia home since starting USC in 1979, the native of Oakland, NJ, was named the 1985 Radio Journalist of the Year by the RTNDAC and has been an award-winning officer in both the Jaycees and Knights of Columbus.

  • Rick Sanford




    Rick Sanford is a former USC defensive back from Rock Hill (1975-78) who earned All-America status as a senior and was selected in the first round (25th overall) by the New England Patriots, becoming the first Gamecock to be drafted in the inaugural round. He played for seven years in the NFL for the Patriots (1979-84) and Seattle Seahawks (1985). He is a retired Doctor of Chiropractic and a Columbia-area radio personality.

  • Tara Moore




    A native of Bridgeport, WVa, Tara Moore serves as the organization’s treasurer. She earned her bachelor’s degree in accounting and finance from the University of South Carolina while marching in the band and earned her MBA from The Citadel. A certified public accountant, she has operated a tax and accounting practice for the past decade and is married to Executive Director Andy Solomon.

    Andy Solomon, a fourth-generation Charlestonian, spent more than 40 years working in the Athletics Departments at College of Charleston, Baptist College (Charleston Southern), Winthrop, Limestone and the last 27 years of his career at The Citadel. Highlights of his career include being named the NAIA’s Sports Information Director of the Year and the NCAA’s Sports Marketer of the Year. He graduated from College of Charleston and earned his Master’s at Winthrop, and continues to work for the NCAA as a site representative for baseball regionals and super regionals. Solomon has been inducted in the NAIA Hall of Fame along with those at Winthrop and Limestone. He joined the SCAHOF board of directors in 2005 and became executive director in 2022.

    Gloria Friedgen was a physical education and biology teacher who coached volleyball, basketball and track for 35 years in schools around the country as she followed her football-coaching husband, Ralph Friedgen, through his hall of fame career. While in Charleston, she was named 8-AAA basketball coach of the year and while in San Diego she was awarded Biology Partner of the Year. She graduated from SUNY Cortland and added a Master’s from the University of Maryland. They have three daughters and two grandsons.
